Plot Synopsis:

The year is anywhere between 2015 and 2040. In a post-apocalyptic world devastated by global climate change, collapsing economies, and dwindling food supplies, civilization as we know it is no more. The US and several Western European countries are no longer considered “first world” countries, and only the few mostly stable countries like China, remain to rise up and take what remains of that role.

In the US, isolated pockets of prosperity do exist, jealously guarded, but a vast majority of people live a hand to mouth scrabbling sort of existence, either as nomadic sorts of wanders, very poor sub-sets within dying cities, or in isolated communities.

In this world we meet a small cast of characters. Brought together by the rumor of a prosperous, open community of survivors, "The City." (ie the whole Utopia sort of myth) they band together to make their way to this promised land of hope.

Cast:

There's the ex-FBI agent and his young daughter:
Johnathan Marshal (played by Colin Ferguson) and Cassandra “Cassie” Marshal (played by Joey King)

Johnathan's Theme

Johnathan is one of the few voices of hope left in this world. He still wants to believe that things will work out and that any person can change the world for the better if he or she only tries. He is devoted to his daughter and wants, more than anything, to give her a better life.

Cassie's Theme

Cassie is very much like her father, wanting to believe in hope and the goodness of people. She is a bright girl, joyful and and full of life. She faces each hardship on their journey with a will and a seemingly boundless sense of determination.

The Doctor and her young son:
Elizabeth Carter (played by Salli Richardson – Whitfield) and Jaden Carter (played by Jaden Smith)

Elizabeth's Theme

Elizabeth is a practical woman with a hidden streak of romanticism and idealism. A dedicated healer, she has devoted her life to medicine, science, and helping people. The only thing she cares more about than medicine, is her son, and she would gladly lay down her life or do anything in her power to see him safe and happy.

Jaden's Theme

Jaden is an intelligent boy, sometimes too smart for his own good. And while he loves his mother, he sometimes finds her protectiveness stifling. Jaden has just reached that difficult age between childhood and young adulthood, making a troubling and difficult journey, even more so. But with strength and perseverance, he is every bit as determined to reach journey's end as his mother.
